Set of Grinding Stones and Ceramic Fragments

Living heritage

Grinding stones No. 2 and No. 3 plus 18 additional ceramic and lithic fragments recovered in the shelter area. They show the intense domestic and ritual activity of the settlement.

Professor Carlos Sánchez (UNAL, 2023) identified during his excavations ceramics from two dominant periods: Planaditas red polished (Formative 2: 600–300 BC) and Lourdes red-slipped (Formative 3: 300 BC–1 AD). Fragments with red paint in oblique parallel lines were also found, a unique feature of the Granates River valley compared to neighboring studied areas.

Documented heritage · UNAL · ICANH

Every lithic element at Vegonia was documented with the National University. The pieces were never moved to a museum: you see them exactly where they have rested for centuries.
